The categories below celebrate not just content, space, and technology, but, most importantly, purpose. Why where these solutions implemented? Why were they designed? What was made better because of the work of dedicated individuals, artists, designers, engineers, and others? The below categories focus on different outcomes and the amazing people, content, spaces, and technology that made them possible.

Best Dynamic Art Experience

In many cases AV installations blur the line between stunning visual display or audio experience into the realm of art. This category celebrates AV as art, but for a purpose – whether it is to amaze, create a cultural centerpiece, energize people for their day, reinvigorate a functional space, or display information in a stimulating way – it is art and purpose in one application.

CRITERIA

The judging panel will consider all the following when reviewing your submission:

  • Does the entry cross over into the realm of visual or auditory art? Could it be enjoyed as art, even without the additional functions it may serve?
  • Entries must be able to be enjoyed as art, and still have an intended function beyond the artistic.
  • Consideration will be given to the combination of how pleasing/exciting/thought-provoking the project is as an artwork and at the same time how well it serves its intended function.
AVXA-Icons-InPerson-Mobile

Best In-Person Experience

This category celebrates when AV is used strategically to motivate potential attendees to get out into the real world to experience something they can’t see, do, or feel anywhere else. These are unique, typically temporary one-time or time-limited experiences that one must physically attend in order to experience.

CRITERIA

The judging panel will consider all the following when reviewing your submission:

  • Was the use of AV technology, content, and space integral to getting people to attend?
  • Did the target audience attend?
  • Was the in-person experience unique, and something that took advantage of the in-real-life aspect?
AVXA-Icons-Individualized-Mobile

Best Individualized Experience

This category highlights applications where technology gets personal and allows an experience or interaction to be tailored to the individual. Any applications of AV that enable the environment to connect to you as an individual, and therefore connects you better to your environment or the brand or experience you are having, will be considered. Examples of projects that might fit this category include personal greeting on a guest hotel room media, retail digital signage changing content based on personal demographic, a university classroom where technology responds to personal presets of an instructor.

CRITERIA

The judging panel will consider all the following when reviewing your submission:

  • Was the individual connected to their environment via the technology?
  • Were they able to impact the environment around them, or did the environment or experience react to them individually?
  • How individualized was the experience?
AVXA-Icons-Immersive-Mobile

Best Immersive Experience

This category recognizes illusionary or simulated environments that envelop individuals into an encompassing multi-sensory experience utilizing content, space, and technology.

CRITERIA

The judging panel will consider all the following when reviewing your submission:

  • How many senses were engaged via the experience?
  • How well did the experience overcome your actual surroundings, and replace that with the story or environment created?
  • Additional consideration given to new, unique applications of technology to increase the immersive qualities of the experience.
AVXA-Icons-Flexible-Mobile

Best Flexible Space Experience

In this category, the judges are looking for applied AV that creates spaces that are constantly changing, adaptable, and facilitate the activities that happen within them, enabling a better experience. These spaces must be fit for multiple purposes, easily changed, and, in numerous configurations, optimize the activity happening within them.

CRITERIA

The judging panel will consider all the following when reviewing your submission:

  • How many functions can the space serve?
  • How well does the space serve each function?
  • How easy/quick/intuitive is it to convert the space to the various purposes needed?
  • Does the technology in the space increase its versatility, or add value to the activities taking place in the room?
AVXA-Icons-Collaborative-Mobile

Best Collaborative Experience

The value of person-to-person connections and sharing is undisputed, and this category celebrates applications of AV that bring people as close together as possible via technology, when they cannot be together in real person.

CRITERIA

The judging panel will consider all the following when reviewing your submission:

  • What or how many aspects of a real-life engagement are brought to this alternative experience?
  • At what quality level is each sensory input replicated via technology?
  • Overall, how effective was this at replacing a real life, physical, or co-located experience?
